Let's Go to the Lake!

Let's Go to the Lake!

Our favorite summertime words were "Let's go to the lake!" I miss those days when going to the lake was synonymous with summer. It didn't matter which lake we went too. Living in British Columbia we have many so it is just a matter of how much time we had. For a quick dip after a hot day at work or for a two week vacation or maybe a long weekend camping trip. The words were the same "Let's go to the Lake!"

From Stuart Lake to Takla Lake on the inland highway of only water.

We travelled with one large river boat to carry our camping supplies and fuel for the outboard motors for 2 boats - the riverboat and one little fast boat that my brother uses to water ski. 5 of us in the wilderness on a 4 day camping trip. We put our boats in the water at Stuart Lake and travelled to Takla Lake where we set up camp on a beach. We made our mattresses from carefully placed spruce boughs and the first night we were invaded by a black army of spiders. They loved the freshly cut spruce too. We changed our place to sleep and then the next night they were gone. No other wild critters bothered us the whole trip and we certainly caught our limit of fish from these pristine lakes. See our route on the map - Stuart Lake to Takla Lake which included traveling the treacherous rivers where we had to stop and do some repairs from hitting a rock that was just under the fast water.
When our two son's were old enough to make the trip with us - we went again. By this time someone had built some wilderness A-frame cabins - so we could 'camp' with a little more security.
The words, "let's go the Lake!" brings back a book full of memories.
